REPORT ON THE CORONAVIRUS PANDEMIC AND THE EFFECTS OF LOCKDOWN AND RESTRICTION OF MOVEMENT ON NIGERIANS The first confirmed case of the coronavirus pandemic was announced on the 27th of February 2020 when an Italian citizen in lagos tested positive for the virus. And since then the number of cases have been on an increase as Nigeria now has a total of 627 confirmed, 170 recovered and 21 death cases in Nigeria . However the federal government in their bid to curb the coronavirus and reduce the rate at which it is spreading has now imposed a total lockdown on the citizens of the country which has restricted the freedom of movement of individuals. Although the decision of the federal government to impose the lockdown was for the benefit of the citizens it also has its effects which I would be talking about. The lockdown has affected a lot of citizens in Nigeria especially those living an average life and also those living in the rural areas . For example a bike man who uses the income gotten from his job daily to feed his family not being able to go about his daily job. The lockdown has caused a lot of hunger and death in Nigeria. Most people are not dying due to the pandemic but due to the hunger caused by the lockdown . Asides from that the lockdown has caused a lot of robbery in different parts of the country as youths who have not been able to work now go about robbing individuals of what they have, some even go to the extent of killing the individuals. In conclusion although the lockdown was imposed for the benefit of the citizens it has also affected the citizens greatly and badly. Thank you.
